Sheffield

Sheffield is a Shale surface track, with a Wire & Post fence, located North-West of the city. It is best known for it’s long corners and short straights allowing the cars to drift for much of the lap, with a fence that will catch the unwary.

An explosive start to the meeting when James Morris (463) impacted the home straight fence after a couple of laps of Heat 1, before slewing across the track and being hit by Mark Gilbank (21), who then collided with Scott Davids (462) before the pair of them came to a dead stop in the turn one fence.

With the stadium on the route of a charity fun run on the day of the meeting, start time was moved back to 4pm, and while this no doubt inconvenienced a few people, it did have the major advantage of meaning that at least some of the racing would be in darkness and under the Owlerton floodlights.

Coventry pre-meeting problems for Murray Harrison 97 meant a starter motor needed to be replaced with the gearbox having to come out for access, and on doing so, swung round and snapped the throttle cable meaning it was all hands on deck to get the car ready for action.
