Upcoming Event: King’s Battle, Blauwhuis, 26th & 27th April 2015

This year Speedway Blauwhuis hosts the Superbowl of Stock Car racing. The King’s Battle is getting bigger, better and faster every year. Tensions rise, bumpers collide; who can keep their head cool and take the throne?

Sunday April 26th is ‘Battle Night’ – the only race on the calendar that is run under artificial lights. At the Battle Night, they race according the British system (Heat, Consolation, Final and Grand National).

Every year, these events draw a huge number of competitors.

Last year, it was one of the most spectacular races of the year, with over 50 F1s and 30 F2s showing up for this meeting. The other two classes saw an average of 20 cars taking part.  The nighttime racing gives the sport an extra dimension. Sparks are flying everywhere, brakes are red hot and the exhausts spit out flames like dragons.

Youngster Tom Maris dominated the 2014 race from the start to the end. The rookie driver kept his head cool and stayed in front of the competition.  The podium was completed by Bouwe Arjen Hiddinga (H17) and Ron Kroonder (H217) (who tried to pass in the last bend).

The Final in the F2s was taken by H30 Toon Schut, followed by H124 Wim Peeters and H47 Patrick Tersteeg. The track suits the F2 racing very well; the light and nimble cars are currently holders of the fastest lap time.

3 Ouwe Bijlsma leads the pack.

Then on Monday April 27th, it’s time for the main event.  On King’s Day, the rest of Holland turns orange, but real race fans are eager to find out who’s is going to be the ‘King of Dirt’. This year, some British drivers are going to make the trip over to try to take the crown. Will there be a British King this year?

Pieter van der Iest H226 (F1) and Rick de Graaf H335 (F2) are defending their thrones. Both current Kings are desperate to fend off the competition, but will they do it? There’s only one way to find out – make the trip to Speedway Blauwhuis and see for yourself!
