Scunthorpe Press Release (Updated 22/06/2010)

With a change of personal circumstances meaning GP Promotions having to scale down their promotion of stockcar racing at the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scunthorpe Raceway Limited, who own the stadium and run the club’s speedway operations, will taking over the majority of the 2010 dates and running as an independent operation. GP Promotions are set to continue with the ORC Formula One date on September 11th, but Scunthorpe Raceway Promoter Rob Godfrey is keen for highly-acclaimed circuit to continue as a multi-sports venue.

Quite simply we need to use the stadium as much as possible if we are going to continue developing and improving facilities at the Eddie Wright Raceway. The stockcar racing has proven very popular with drivers and supporters alike and we are blessed with an outstanding race track. I’d like to thank Guy Parker for all his help over the last two years and, whilst this situation was a bit of a shock, I’m sure that with help from the rest of our team we are up to the task. Our first date will be Saturday 31st July and apart from the Formula One date we will have Hot Rods and Rookie Bangers at each meeting. We are looking for a regular third class but the first meeting will have Junior Rods”

“Next year we are hoping to have a meeting once a month, say on the second or third Saturday, so drivers know they can have regular meetings at Scunthorpe. We have kept some of the original dates for the remainer of this year but have inserted a new one in October and pulled one forward a week in August because of our speedway commitments”.

“We’ve got a new page on the website and my son, Paul, is going to deal with all the bookings. Anyone wanting to book for any of the dates should contact him via stating their name, class, car number and roof grade.
Alternatively they can call him on 07521-490985 from 8am to 7pm. The July, August and October meetings will act as qualifiers for the 2010 track championship, probably called the Lincolnshire Cup, and a driver’s best two finishes will count towards their grid position for the Final on 6th November”.

“We have come a long way since the site was a field six years ago and I’m sure the addition of the stockcar meetings will strengthen us as a club and enable us to continue moving forward”.

For all booking please contact or call Paul Godfrey on 07521-490985 (8am to 7pm).
Anyone wanting to book for the ORC meeting on 11th September (BRISCA Formula One plus Ministox) should contact Guy Parker at

Updated (22/06/2010) has been contacted by Rob Godfrey to help clarify the situation with regards to BriSCA F1’s at Scunthorpe

This is a very difficult statement to write because I really don’t know which direction the F1’s are going to take. What I can tell you is that I would have been happy to continue with the ORC as I thought I was a co promoter with Guy Parker, but the ORC will not recognise me and will only run ORC formulas with another ORC promoter. Obviously I’ve worked closely with Guy and do not particularly want to work with anyone else but him. So I have ruled this option out and the only way to keep Scunthorpe as a stock car track is to run independent. As regards to F1 it is quite possible the September meeting will be the last one.

Thanks Rob
