Press Release: Technical Scrutineering Team

On behalf of the BMB BSCDA Chairman Neil Scothern has released a statement with regard to the Technical Scrutineering Team.

Following discussions at the BSCDA 2012 AGM and listening to comments from drivers throughout the year it seems that there are concerns that not all cars are running within the rules.

We already have in place pre meeting scrutineering where safety aspects such as helmets, belts etc are checked.  We have post race scrutineering carried out by Conrad Wilson where we check that race winners comply with the weight, ground clearance, 4” gap etc rules

The BMB have now engaged a technical inspection team, headed by Tim Mann who will check cars regularly but on a random and unannounced basis.  The team will not be in attendance at every meeting, they will obviously be at major meetings plus routine ones as well.

The intention wherever possible is to perform these checks before racing takes place, we do not like taking race wins off people so by checking before, if anything amiss is found drivers will have the opportunity to put things right and not risk disqualification.

When a particular driver has an extended good run, pit talk suggests that he must be running illegally.  We want to squash those theories with this new procedure because it does not automatically follow that a successful driver is a cheating driver.

The Technical Team will also assist the BMB in testing new technology, brake pads, shockers, tyres etc, our aim is to create a level and cost effective playing field for all drivers and we are sure you will agree that this can be only of benefit to the sport.

Yours sincerely

Neil Scothern.
On behalf of the BMB.
