Pick of the week: Gears and Tears

F1Stockcars.com was privileged this week to have been sent Episode 1 of Gears and Tears the forthcoming docu-drama about BriSCA F1 stock cars for reviewing purposes (via a promotional copy supplied by the BBC themselves).

And it does not disappoint. Without wanting to be ‘spoiling the surprise’ and giving too much away, the episode focuses on the 2009 UK Open weekend, garnering background information on the two ‘warring’ families. But don’t fret there is a fair share (hefty wallop!) of in-car and race footage.

The programme also includes some vintage footage showing the rivalry that existed between Stuart Smith Snr and Frankie Wainman Snr as far back as the 1970s. There is also a brief breakdown of what an F1 stockcar today actually is and there are moments of humour along with the drama. The episode finally ends with a small teaser for next weeks episode to keep you tuning in.

This is the ideal intro to let all our non-stockcar friends and family know WHY exactly we spend all those weekends away from home, following, and talking about these awesome V8 beasts and their drivers. Quite possibly one of the very few if not only TV programs that will have you absolutely glued until the credits have completed rolling!

In short we believe that Gears And Tears will appeal to both current stock car fans, those who have lost touch with the sport and the general public alike, and who knows just where this may lead?

Final thought: if you do not already own a DVDR or Sky+ do yourself a favour, buy one before 10:30pm on the 2nd August because this is something you will want to watch again and again.

A preview video is available on the BBC website showing the opening few minutes from the forthcoming documentary (Monday night, 2nd August)
