BriSCA F1 2011 Season Preview

To coincide with the Autosport show, the BriSCA Management Board* have issued a press release detailing highlights for the forthcoming season of BriSCA F1 racing:

Highlights of the 2011 Season

The key features of the 2011 season for BriSCA Formula One Stock Car Racing are as follows:

There are a total of 50 UK-based meetings scheduled. The season opens at Belle Vue, Manchester on Sunday 21 March and runs through to the end of season Gala Night at Birmingham on Saturday 19 November.

The racing will take place at 11 different venues.

The HEMT National Points Championship Shootout comprises 10 meetings held towards the end of the season – including the Finale at Belle Vue on Sunday 13 November. The Shootout is open to the top 12 drivers and at all these meetings the top 12 start at the back of the grid and the top points scorer will the coveted Silver Roof and the title, “National Points Champion”. To add additional interest to the Shootout Rounds the “Novice of the Year” title will also be determined on the basis of points scored by eligible drivers across the Shootout Rounds.

The 2011 World Championship will comprise a series qualifying rounds – one at each track – followed by Semi Finals at Skegness on Saturday 30 July and at Belle Vue on Bank Holiday Monday 29 August with the Championship race meeting at Northampton International Raceway on Saturday 10 September.

14/15 May – UK Open Speedweekend at Skegness
11 June – British Drivers Championship
16/17 July – European Championship Weekend at Northampton
20/21 August – World Cup Weekend at Venray, Holland
25 September – Under 25s Championship at Belle Vue
11 September – World Masters at Northampton
5 November – Grand National Championship at Coventry
20 November – Gala Night V incl Shooting Stars 2001 at Birmingham

*The BriSCA Formula One Management Board is the governing body for Formula One Stock Car racing. It membership is made up of three representatives each from the sports Promoters (BriSCA) and the British Stock Car Drivers Association (BSCDA) and has an independent Secretary.

Coventry pre-meeting problems for Murray Harrison 97 meant a starter motor needed to be replaced with the gearbox having to come out for access, and on doing so, swung round and snapped the throttle cable meaning it was all hands on deck to get the car ready for action.
