Ipswich – June 19th 2010 Meeting Report

Brisca F1s made their annual visit to Foxhall Heath raceway, Ipswich, on Saturday night. The circuit is one of the few remaining that hosted the sport in it’s inaugural year of 1954.

With the sun shining down on the race track for heat one, Ryan Harrison (197) caught and passed race leader Rob Cowley (73) in the closing stages to record the race win.

Rain before heat 2 made the track a little greasy, but Wes Goodwin (295) showed he is getting to grips with the ex Andy Smith (1) machine. Goodwin held off a spirited charge from Dutchman Peter van den Bosch (h482).

Colin Goodswen (372) has completed many laps around the Foxhall oval and he showed his local knowledge by using a different line to most to cross the line first in race three. However, his car failed post race weighing handing the race to Lee Robinson (107).

The final turned out to be a classic with Robinson closing in on race leader Ed Neachell (321) in the closing stages. Going into the last bend Robinson punted Neachell wide, which allowed third place man Chris Bonner (105) to join in a three car drag race for the line. Robinson won out with Bonner crossing the line second. Neachell came home third, hooked up with a back marker. In post race weighing Bonner suffered the same fate as Goodswen earlier and was excluded from the result. It appears that with the changing weather, both drivers had a late change of tyres and were caught out by the difference in weight between dry and wet tyres.

As he did at Coventry, Frankie Wainman Jr (515) was in determined mood in the Grand National, he stormed to victory with Danny Wainman (212) following home close behind.
