The Royal Highland Show may have been taking place near Edinburgh over the same weekend but any self-respecting stock car fan would have forsaken the heavy horses and highland cattle displays at Ingliston for the heavy hitting and horsepower at Cowdenbeath Racewall. The occasion was the 2016 F1 Stock Car Scottish Championship and an impressive thirty-five cars turned up to race over a two heat and consolation format.

On a greasy track, local expert Paul Ford (388) took up the running in heat one after fellow Scot Stuart Shevill Junior (518) retired, taking a home win from Newson (16) and Wainman (515). Mick Sworder (150) took the lead in heat two after just five laps and ran out a clear winner over defending Scottish champion Tom Harris (84), with Will Hunter (220) third. Stuart Smith Junior (390), after an early exit from his heat, made no mistakes in the consolation, powering to the win ahead of Shevill and Michael Steward (512), setting the scene for the Scottish Championship race to follow.

The hard racing in the heats had nothing on the Final; the opening laps seeing Speak spin, Austin Moore (127) and Ollie Ives (237) collide and Newson retiring. Speak recovered and sent FWJ to the wall, a caution to shift debris from the track allowing the British Champion to gather his thoughts and repay Speak with interest at the restart. Another caution followed to let the medics attend to Speak and also Ford who had been propelled into turn two by those behind. Such was the rate of attrition, only eleven cars made the restart on lap five, with Steward leading until the halfway stage when Harris took over to cruise to victory ahead of Sworder and the flying blue top 512.

Shevill finally got to hold the chequered flag with a win in the Grand National, taking the lead early on and keeping his distance from second-placed Sworder and third-placed Lee Fairhurst. Harris, from the lap handicap, came home fourth.
