Coventry – November 3rd 2012 Meeting Report

The start to the last Coventry of 2012 saw Mark Poole 276 make his way to victory in the Whites and Yellows Championship with Chris Clare 394 and Chris Bonner 105. Due to earlier heavy rainfall, track conditions were a bit treacherous with cars slipping and sliding through the wet shale. Adam Slater 214 snatched the lead early on only to take in a spin. The Coventry meeting sadly also saw Adam’s retirement from F1 Stockcars, always a shame when a talented driver leaves the sport.

The following World of Shale 2012 closed grid affair saw Craig Finnikin 55 initially take the lead until Paul Harrison 2 took up the running but the tricky track conditions saw any driver going slightly too wide, lose traction in the sludge. Frankie Wainman jnr 515 stormed his way to the front and put some serious power down to take the flag.

Heat 1 saw the first of the Dutch visitors take to the track but it was Timmy Farrell who 467 led for most of the race. Mick Sworder 150 was blazing up the order, reeling in Farrell sending him wide on the last lap and claiming the lead and the win for himself. Lower grader James Morris 463 led the second heat with Ryan Harrison 197 moving into second after the restart. Harrison soon moved into the lead but Morris slid by when Harrison put Dylan Williams Maynard 51 into the parked up Neil Holcroft 496. A composed Craig Finnikin 55 took charge going on to take the win.

Dan Johnson’s 4 hopes of making it two Coventry final wins in a row were destroyed when Rob Hink H46 and Jac Tesselaar H440 formed a train, spinning Johnson out of the race. Mark Poole 276 claimed his second race victory of the night from Paul Harrison and Frankie Wainman Jnr.

Lee Warner 290 initially led the final but a bout of yellows saw Mal Brown 34 on his tail and it was not long before Mal took the lead. A speeding Ryan Harrison was flying up the order and was into the lead by the halfway point. Despite another bout of yellows in the latter stages, Harrison held on to the lead charging on to take a fine final victory.

Daniel Wainman 212 held off a last bend assault from brother Frankie Wainman Jnr to take race win with Tom Harris 84 getting the better of Wainman Jnr, going up the inside to take second.

Out of all the Dutch competitors, Jac Tesselaar H440 in the ex-Berry Paardenkooper H25 car got to grips with the Coventry shale straight away and with his Consolation fourth the best result. Regardless of results, it’s always greatly appreciated when overseas drivers make the time and effort to travel to the UK to compete.
