Stox Personality of the Year 2017: Nominee #4

Four personalities have been shortlisted for the 2017 F1Stockcars.com Stox Personality of the Year award. This time, the nominees were chosen by last year’s winner, Mick Sworder.

One nominee will be announced each day for the next 4 days – so make sure you keep checking the site! The other nominations were Stuart Smith Junior,  Harry Steward and Frankie Wainman Jnr Jnr.

Voting will open on Saturday 9 December and will close at midnight on Saturday 16 December. The winner will be announced on Sunday 17 December.

Nominee #4: Todd Jones

Despite being a relative newcomer to BriSCA F1 racing, Todd Jones has a wealth of oval experience to call on and despite being based in Farnborough, Hampshire in what is the Deep South in F1 terms he has made the right sort of impact on other drivers back bumpers and consequently the right sort of impact on the fans.

As far back as 2008 he won the English championship in that most brutal of oval disciplines, 2litre saloons and followed that up with a European title the following year. A spell in BriSCA Formula Two came next before switching to Spedeworth’s superstox formula where he took their European championship in 2012.

Todd took his first F1 final win at Buxton in March 2016 and is definitely a tarmac specialist. He finished in equal 20th place in the 2017 points chart with all of his points scored on hard surfaces, taking a single final win at Skegness in July. Todd seems to be the sort of driver who keeps himself to himself off track and lets his driving do the talking once the pit gate shuts.

Not many can get away with introducing Mick Sworder to the wires more than once but he achieved that twice (or was it three times?) at the Farewell to Wimbledon meeting in March while in July he sent both Stuart Smith Junior and Tom Harris into the turn one plating at Northampton on his way to finishing fourth in the European Championship before going to victory in the Bev Greenhalf memorial trophy race. No respecter of reputations is Todd and long may that continue – I feel sure that if Bev were still around he would agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly.
