Rob Harrad (#258): Mid Season Report

Rob Harrad (#258) gives F1Stockcars.com a mid-season update.
Well, after the almost win at Julys Coventry’s British Championship meeting we thought we’d try Kings Lynn and boy what an expensive night that turned out to be as we broke the engine! All was well after the heat and we were going out for the next race when a very loud banging came from the engine, it turned out that a valve guide had broken and fired the broken bits across the heads into several pistons.

Fortunately they were not too badly damaged and will go again but the heads needed some work to replace the broken guide and regrind some damaged valve seats. Also it bent the valve so we need a new one of them and finally a new set of lifters. A 5p cer clip broke on one of the lifters, which allowed it to open the valve much further than normal so it hit the piston and the rest is history as they say. Bottom image shows a cer clip like the one that failed.

So the head work is all done, we are just waiting on some parts to arrive from the states and we should then be back up and running.
