Flashback Snow Day: John Cayzer

John-Cayzer-Xmas-2014-Mick-Jenkins-01

Not exactly a Christmas photo but at least there’s snow on the ground.

After a brief career in F1 in 1967, John, along with with dad Ron and brother Alan moved into Spedeworth’s superstox formula, with John debuting on Boxing Day of that year; cousin Peter also joining the ranks briefly in the early seventies. The Cayzers became a prominent part of Spedeworth racing before John made a surprise return to Brisca F1 at Northampton in 1979 in the car pictured which, if memory serves, incorporated parts John had kept in the shed since his previous F1 foray.

John finished 1979 as second highest blue top, gained star grade the following year and famously won the 1984 European Championship in front of the ITV cameras at Northampton. Steve Cayzer, Alan’s son also forged a successful career in F1 before joining John in Brisca F2 along with brother Stuart and John’s son Derek.

Whilst maybe not as successful in Brisca F1 as the Wainmans or the Smiths, the Cayzer racing dynasty is equally as entrenched in the history of stock car racing in the UK.
